Leibniz in Russia: Translators and translations

,

A four-volume collection of Leibniz’s selected works and letters was published in Russian in 1982-1989 and still remains the most authoritative and representative Russian-language edition of Leibniz, even though it lacks some of his important mathematical papers on dynamics and calculus. This special edition included many works translated into Russian for the first time, but some translations dated as far back as the nineteenth century, and a few other texts, although prepared, did not appear in the published volumes. This paper presents the history of more than a hundred years of efforts at translating and publishing Leibniz in Russian.
