From the history of the making of the Russian-British scientific collaboration: two early 18th century manuscripts from the archive of the Royal society, London

, ,

The paper analyzes two 18th century manuscripts from the archive of the Royal Society, London. One of these is the list of 15 questions about Russia the British sought the answers for and the other is Ch. Whitworth’s letter containing the answers to some of the questions from this list. It may be concluded from this analysis that there was considerable interest in the UK in the state of geographical, mathematical, astronomical, medical and iatrochemical, and other knowledge in Russia, and, which is important, there were channels in place through which this interest could be satisfied.
