Bibliography and sources for the history of schools of programing at the USSR academy of sciences and leading soviet higher education establishments (1950–2017)

This paper reviews historical sources and historiography that reflect the emergence and development in the USSR of the scientific schools of programing, associated with the USSR Academy of Sciences and the leading Soviet higher education establishments. The paper analyzes historical sources from the period of 1950–1990, from the emergence of the first Soviet computer codes till the disintegration of the USSR. The chronological framework for the historiography covers the period from 1958 to 2017, from the emergence of the first Russian publications on the history of programing to the present day. The publications such as training and specialist literature, serial and periodical publications as well as the archives of A. P. Ershov and S. S. Lavrov are analyzed in the part of the paper devoted to source studies. The historiographic part discusses the works by the Soviet programmers that contain historical reviews of the making of the discipline of programing. The paper also reviews the formation of the concept of ‘schools of programing’ with regard to different teams of programmers in the USSR.
