An academic tragedy: The closing of the Paris Academy of Sciences during the French Revolution

S.This article describes the history of the August 1793 closure of the Paris Academy of Sciences during the French Revolution, the causes and consequences of the event, and the impact of the Jacobin terror on French science. It also analyzes the factors that allowed the French academic community to overcome the crisis and achieve further successes in post-revolutionary France.
