Late ninteenth-century sources for the history of medicine in sixteenth–seventeenth century Russia

The article analyses late 19th – early 20th century literature on the history of medicine and the views of the authors at that time on the status of medical knowledge and practices in pre-Petrine Russia. Most historians of medicine in that period were practicing physicians themselves. A detailed study of medical periodicals from 1869 to 1917 allows one to discuss the diversity of their historical opinions and the evolution of medical historiography during the period.
