A. I. Kitov and the development of the concept of automatic control systems


During the 1950 and 1960s, A. I. Kitov developed and propagated the concept of the Automatic Control System (ASU) of production. This essay discusses the history of the concept and the evolution of Kitov’s views on the application of computers and ASU in the Soviet economy. The analysis focuses on the main ideas behind the ASU concept, the introduction of such systems into the Soviet economy during the 1960s and 1970s, and the specificities of the regulation of economic activity in the USSR with the help of electronic technology.
